Model Train Giant Marklin
Marklin, a Germany based toy giant is well known for technical toys and model railways. Originally specialized in doll accessories, the company was founded in 1959. Now it has become almost synonym of model railroad. It was in 1891 that the very first train with cars was released by this toy giant. Today it makes almost all popular model rail road scale except Wide gauge and N scale. It is Marklin that defined the gauges for toy trains which later became the international standards. It started making O gauge followed by HO scale and Z scale. At present it is involved in manufacturing and marketing trains and its accessories in Z scale, Gauge 1 and Z scale.
Trix, another brand name of Marklin, was also a Nuremberg based model train manufacturer. Today it manufactures DC- operated HO scale and N scale models. The older models of this company still find favor with millions and its latest products have got the elite status among the model train loving crowds.
Till 1999 this company was known especially for its model trains but after that it also started producing mechanical construction sets. It also used to manufacture lithographed toys and boats. At present it is best known for its Marklin system. Marklin system is basically Marklin techniques. The techniques refer to using a third rail hid in the roadbed made of small studs. The two outer rails are connected through electricity. Thus only two trains are visible with simplified wiring system. But in actual it's a three rail system. Marklin has also the distinction of introducing a digital train system. It was introduced in 1984 with the collaboration of Motorola. But only 2-rail DC trix brand manufactured by marklin is powered with digital command control. In its digital system there is a component named Marklin k83 for controlling model trains. With the help of this component signals turnouts are flashed in either green or red color. The current produced in this mechanism is temporary. The switching of permanent current is done by another module of Marklin known as Marklin 6084 or k84. This module is a 4 digital relays. Each relay is equipped with two mutually exclusive outputs. It is used to make switch on and off for current supply or cut.
With the passage of time the company has become a name to recon with in the field of toy manufacturing. It makes an extensive range of products. Its product packaging is also impressive. It is quite systematic showing a print run number on all its printed material. The number indicates the month and year of printing and the other group of digits indicates catalogue number. Nowadays Marklin's model trains are easily available through online shopping.
