You Can Stand Out in a Crowd

Why is it that too few of us try to stand out in a crowd?

Being viewed as knowledgeable in some area in your life can lead to golden opportunities. Have you an ambition to get a promotion? Speak at an event? Impress your spouse or open up your life to possibility?

How do go about doing this? Are you looking at the big picture instead of choosing something specific to become an expert in?

First you must decide what you are good at. What can you talk about with some authority? Is it a hobby? For example: model trains, lace making, children's literature, stamp collecting, matchbox collecting, WW2 History. Is it a skill? Carpentry, public speaking, Internet knowledge, cooking, lace making or painting. Is it a work skill? Are you a people person, great bookeeper, creative chef, dedicated teacher or entrepreneur?

We all have skills to share. This will open up our life. It is where we find our passion.Sharing and opening up can be a way to:

  • meet people

  • gain a promotion

  • develop a consultancy

  • develop self esteem

  • improve personal relationships

Claiming you are an expert at something takes courage and belief in yourself. But the opportunities are unlimited when you do. We live in the information age and people are looking for information on all sorts of topics.

The Internet is a wonderful resource for

  • promoting your ideas,

  • researching

  • contacting people with the same or similar interests.

Really reflect upon what you are good at. Don't be modest. Brainstorm. Ask questions such as: What are my qualifications? Are they formal? Have I gained expertise through experience? This is by no means an inferior qualification!

Are you afraid to claim expertise in an area because you do not want someone to challenge you? Are you sure you know enough?

Look for something unique about your knowledge and experience.

You will probably find it is your attitude and lack of openness that is holding you back. People won't challenge you because most of us are behaving in the same self defeating way. Become someone who can inspire others to break the mold of inferiority.

Spend time reviewing your knowledge and experience and be clear about what you know. A positive approach is to be clear that you are always open to learning more!

Taking a broad topic and then refining it to something specific, unusual or interesting is not difficult if you are willing to put in the time and the effort.

Stand up and put your best foot forward. You don't know where it will lead!

The Brown Navy And Its Roll In The Vietnam War

The concept of riverine forces was not new to Southeast Asia. During the Indochina War of 1946-54, French forces created the Dinassauts, which were combat organizations designed to operate in the hostile environment of Vietnam's waterways. These employed a variety of modified landing craft in the fire support and stop and search roles. When the first South Vietnamese Naval units were established in 1955, their River Assault Groups (RAGs) took over the equipment. By 1964, the RAGs possessed over 200 craft.

Prior to 1965, operations against the VC in the Mekong Delta were the responsibility of the South Vietnamese forces. However, from December 1965 onwards they transferred to the U.S. Navy's River Patrol Force (Task Force 116). One of the earliest operations mounted by the RPF was Game Warden, which deployed river patrol boats and experimental hovercraft to prevent the VC use of the waterways. It was run parallel to Operation Market Time, which began in March 1965 by Task Force 71 (later 115), and was designed to cut off NVA seaborne infiltration. By mid-1966 it had become clear that more had to be done to challenge VC control of the delta and the coastal mangrove swamps of the Rung Sat Special Zone, southeast of Saigon.

Between August 1966 and November 1967, 17 million cubic tons of silt were dredged in order to create a base on the My Tho river for a new Mekong Delta Mobil Afloat Force (MDMAF). Along with the base, two self-propelled barracks ships (APDs) where added to the area to provide floating base facilities and accommodations for the grunts when they cam back from an operation. Each ship was usually moored no more than 30 miles from the zone of operations, and had berths for 800 men, with space for a further 600 at a tight squeeze.

American attempts to control VC infiltration in the delta, saw the largest expansions to date of riverine forces when, in June of 1967, the Mobile Riverine Force became operational. Reviving a strategy used during the American Civil War, when Union Army forces operated Navy gunboats on the Ohio, Mississippi and other inland water-ways, US Army troops were given special training, including combat operations in the Rung Sat Special Zone and at the Coronado Navel Base in San Diego, California. The MRF comprised a navel component (Task Force 117) harnessed to the 2d Brigade, 9th Infantry Division. This included the 3d and 4th Battalions, 47th Infantry; the 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry, and the 105mm howitzers of the 3d Battalion, 39th Artillery. The task force was often combined with units drawn form the South Vietnamese Marine Corps.

The MRF were given with an array of landing craft and spawned a new type of weaponry made for taking on the VC in the Mekong. The MRF were provided with Armored Troop Carriers (ATCs) with steel slats to take the beef out of recoilless-rifle rounds; Monitors and Command Control Boats (CCBs) for co-coordinating assaults; not forgetting the trusty Swifts and River Patrol Boats (PRBs). Add helicopter pads to some of the craft, and equip each and every one with a factory of weapons ranging from the 0.5in machine gun to the 40mm cannon and 81mm mortar, and you have one heck of a Brown Navy on your hands.

The arrival of the Assault Support Patrol Boats (ASPB) added still more firepower to the MRF's inventory, and provided a razor sharp cutting edge during the ambushes, patrols, reconnaissance and escort missions. Then there was the Patrol Air Cushion Vehicle (PACV), known as the shark-mouthed raider and using the call-sign "Monster," these hovercraft could race across rice paddies and shallow swamps that were off-limits to other riverine craft. Complete with a heavy-duty battalion of 105mm howitzers based on mobile barges, the MRF worked the waters of the delta.

The operations usually followed the same pattern. The heavily armed ASPBs would take on the role of point as the column of boats cruised through the water, with minesweepers on both flanks. Next came the river assault squadron's naval commander in his CCB. A Monitor was usually the next boat in line, ready to unleash sustained firepower into the bushes on the river banks if any incoming was received. Then came a force of three ATC's carrying the battalion's first company.

The Coronado operations (I to XI) from June 1967 onwards, concentrated on Long An and Dinh Tuong Provinces in the Mekong, with special attention to the Rung Sat Special Zone. Initially, the VC attempt to stand and fight against the MRF hammer and anvil tactics, but the sheer scale of the MRF operations accounted for over 1000 VC during the last six months of 1967. By the end of 1968, the objectives of Market Time, Game Warden and MRF along the coast and in the Mekong Delta had largely been achieved. However, now there was a new problem. Thwarted in the delta, the VC began to exploit a new infiltration route - across the Cambodian border. To counter this, Market Time, Game Warden and MRF units were welded into a combined force under the codename 'Sealords.'

How Reading Magazines Can Help With Your Online Business Networking

Let's say your favorite hobby is toy trains or fitness. You might be a loyal subscriber to the monthly issues that those magazines publish. You read faithfully because it helps with your creative thinking process. Whatever the case may be, you'd be surprised to find out that the famous person you admire the most , who may be the article author or the founder of the publication potentially has a social networking profile.

MySpace is the perfect place for networking with your social profile. It gives you the ability to interact online for all positive reasons. People from all walks of life and careers most likely have a MySpace page. In fact, folk such as Def Jam CEO Russell Simmons, OmniMedia founder Martha Stewart, Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Atlantic, Jay-Z, The Governor of California, United States politicians, and fitness buffs who are professional bodybuilders openly network with new people all the time on social network websites. Another great place to find intellectual people that are more serious about networking online is Facebook. On that social website, folk such as T. Boone Pickens, Michael R. Bloomberg of Bloomberg L.P. , former New York City mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and more are on Facebook.

These great people of today's society are easily accessible for potential direct contact. Finding more valuable people in magazines is a good thing to do in looking them up on websites for social networking. To keep track, what I do is skim through each page of a magazine, circle the name of the individual I desire to see if they have a page online to socialize with, and then cross check MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn. Linked In is a newly growing business professional network who has lots of famous people as well as small startup CEO's who made it big in what they do.

Whatever you love to read, it can be a valuable thing to you in the long run. Not only does it empower you in terms of strengthening your knowledge, but you can directly interact with them online. Who would ever think that Martha Stewart, Mike Bloomberg of Bloomberg Television and politicians have the time to converse with the "little people" on the world wide web? Believe it or not, they too were once little. It doesn't hurt to network with them. Perhaps they may share some helpful tips with you in business or otherwise.

Fun Nursery Themes That Will Even Have Your Baby Talking!

There are many whimsical, fun baby room themes if you are planning on decorating a nursery. Infants need stimulation, so parents get the chance to be kids again and let their playfulness and imagination run wild.

A fun, flexible baby room theme is to decorate it in whimsical patterns. Try painting butter yellow or grass green stripes on the walls. Then hang bold graphic pictures of cats and dogs in bright red or blue frames on the walls.

Use the same graphic style to paint a toy chest using stencils, or apply stickers against a colorful painted background.

Another fun baby room theme is a design around the theme of Sweet Dreams. Use bright colors such as watermelon pink and lime green on accessory pieces, and then choose white for the walls, ceiling, and lamps.

Use the bright, bold colors in places that will capture your baby's attention, and mix them with different fabrics and patterns. Try fabrics such as grape terry cloth, plaids, polka dots, and candy cane stripes. Paint the walls a creamy vanilla to keep the room centered and calm.

You might wallpaper one entire wall with a bold print of watermelon slices. Then hang a diaphanous sheer white-on-white polka dot draping from the ceiling that flows around the crib. Paint or paper a small square above the crib with the same watermelon slice print.

When your baby looks up, he or she will certainly fall asleep and have sweet dreams!

A good theme for decorating a baby nursery is to design it around a Playhouse theme. This baby room theme works well for both boys and girls, and also gives them a great place to play as they grow older. Use a border paper with houses or apartment buildings printed on it.

You can find a variety of whimsical playtown dressers with buildings, cars, and clouds painted on them. Top it with a lamp that has a wooden base shaped like an apartment building and a taxicab clock. You might paint a mural of a street scene on one wall and use your family member's names on the signs above stores.

There is a multitude of characters from cartoons that you can utilize for baby room themes. Try Superman, Aladdin, the Lion King, Curious George, Snoopy, Cinderella, or Mickey Mouse. How about pirates, knights, princesses, castles, cowboys, Peter Pan, and Tinkerbell?

You'll have no problem finding bedding, lamps, rocking chairs, and other accessories with these design figures.

You can even choose animals for baby room themes, such as frogs, bugs, and goldfish. Buy a table and chair set painted with snails, butterflies, moths, ladybugs and caterpillars.

Or furniture with bold colors and patterns, such as lime green chunky ball feet on tables, and chairs with polka dots decorating purple table and chair legs.

Transportation themes are also easy to coordinate when you are deciding on a baby room theme. Pick planes, trains, bicycles, or automobiles. Use bright primary colors and put up a display of model trains or vintage cars.

Whichever theme you decide on, choose a design that is appropriate for an infant and a toddler. Use inexpensive, stain-repellant area rugs that can be replaced when you want to update the design.

The frog lamps, duck mobiles, and framed pictures of lions and tigers can easily be switched to pictures of the latest cartoon heroes when your infant becomes a toddler.

The most important factor in choosing a baby room theme is to make sure it's safe and comfortable for your baby.

Then figure out all the activities that the room will be used for and go from there. The sky, literally, is the limit!

How to Use eBay to Promote Your Website Part III

How else can you use the About Me page?

However, it is more than that, and this is why I mentioned the newsletter and e-course above. You can use your About Me page to make a statement to your internet marketing newbie, such as:

Click Here to Get details of a Newsletter that can Provide you with More Information about how to use the Product I am Offering Here.

Or:

Click Here for Details of an E-course on How to use eBay to Make Money.

You then provide a clickable link to a squeeze page on your website that is designed to get the visitors email address and expand your list. You offer a newsletter or five part course on the topic of the product you are offering on eBay. The beauty about this is that the eBay visitor need not buy anything just have a look at the description of your product, because you put the link to your About Me page in your eBay listing.

In fact, eBay even provides the HTML to allow you to add the link to your listing description. They provide the means for you to do what they dont like you doing! Do not, however, make the mistake of directly advertising a product that you are not selling on eBay. A newsletter about model trains is fine, but dont advertise your childhood Marklin or Triange if it is not on eBay.

Basically, that is how to use eBay to promote your website. Use your About Me page to provide a link to your squeeze page, place it in the description of your product, and wait for the visitors to come. It does not provide a mass of traffic, but it does so slowly and steadily with every product you offer for sale on eBay.

Use 10 day listings, and it doesnt matter if you sell anything or not. You will shortly: but more than likely from your email list that eBay has unknowingly helped you to build.

Want additional information about using eBay? Go to How to Use eBay for Buying Part I and How to Complement your Internet Marketing Business by Selling on eBay Part I.

The History of Citizen Watches

There are a lot of different companies that make watches and timepieces today but there are few that have been around as long as the Citizen Watch Company. Moreover, there are only a handful of companies that have stuck to their guns when it comes to the quality of the products that they were founded upon. Citizen Watch Company is the exception to the rule when it comes to this area of business and they have yet to fall to the almighty dollar and cut the quality. This is why they are now the largest maker of watches and timepieces in the world with a presence in every major country. The uncompromising quality and style of the Citizen Watch has made this so.

THE EARLY DAYS

The first Citizen Watch was created in 1924 using a new form of technology to make it the smallest and thinnest of the time. It is very hard to recognize this timepiece against the watches that are made today but anyone with a little knowledge can easily identify the craftsmanship of the piece and know that it is a Citizen Watch. This was the springboard for the piece and it went all uphill from there.

The actual Citizen Watch Company was formed six years later in 1930 and was an immediate success. This was due in part to the founders need to bring better and brighter things to the market as soon as possible. Unlike a lot of companies that will hold off on new technology so they do not hurt their current market, the Citizen Watch Company rolled out the many products that it developed from the beginning and made a big splash in the world. This has also made them one of the most hated among the other watch makers in the world but that is nothing to this company as they rolled along.

The Citizen Watch Company now employs more than three thousand people the world over. Based in Japan, they are the first company to make some of the finest innovations in the world and still maintain a market presence in the standard watches that they produced as well. This is something that the other companies were having a lot of trouble with and making a lot of enemies along the way was a daily occurrence for this company.

THE NEW DAY

The Citizen Watch Company was the sole responsible party for the first shock resistant watch to ever be made. This was a big deal for the many hard working people in the world who were tired of having to take their watch in for repair because of shock problems.

Citizen also made its mark on the diving world with the first professional dive watch that features an electronic depth sensor. This improvement on the old design of diving watch has ever endeared the company to the many diving enthusiasts around the world.

They were also responsible for the first Analog Quartz watch to be produced which single handedly changed the way the world told time. Today the Citizen Watch Company has taken the watch making world to a whole new level with Eco Drive System. Tapping into the resource of being environmentally friendly, the Eco Drive System uses a hidden solar cell that is embedded into the works. This cell gathers power from the sun and artificial light sources and turns it into energy to drive the watch. By far this is the most popular watch to be found today and it has more benefits to the environment. No longer do you need to go to the store to purchase a new battery and worry about the old one polluting the ground in a land fill somewhere.

All in all the Citizen Watch Company has been responsible for some of the best things to happen in watches and timepieces for the past many years. Today they are still one of the most popular watch brands in the world and make up a large share of the market with the newest products that can be found almost anywhere.
